In the rarefied year of 1976, a unique phenomenon graced Scotland—a heatwave of unparalleled magnitude. The elevated temperatures spurred the Talisker stills into an extraordinary fervor, intensifying copper interaction and giving rise to this remarkably unconventional Talisker expression.

Standing tall as Talisker’s oldest release to date, this 46-year-old whisky matured in a single puncheon, gaining unparalleled complexity and embodying the essence of an exceptionally scarce malt.

TASTING NOTES

Appearance: Deep amber, boasting outstanding large beading and excellent legs.

Body: Medium to full.

Nose: A mellow aura with a subtle prickle, perhaps a mere whisper of Talisker spice. Complexity and restraint define the aromas—fragrant, lightly oily top notes intertwined with a salty sea breeze and a hint of new hessian sacks. Beneath, a sweet touch of toffee. Adding a drop of water unveils hints of shoreline rock pool and a trace of volcanic smoke, though it diminishes the intricacy.

Palate: Ultra-smooth, oily, and slightly waxy, the taste unfolds with initial sweetness, followed by saltiness, white pepper spice, and subtle smokiness. A familiar peppery kick emerges at the back, ensuring a delightful experience. Confident in character, it’s a pleasure to savor neat. A dash of water enhances the initial sweetness, cooling the palate overall while allowing the pepper and smoke to persist.

Finish: Long, warming, and sweet-smoky, the finale lingers with a cooling aftertaste. The menthol-like effect becomes more pronounced at reduced strength.
