About Rum

Rum, which is derived from sugar cane or its derivatives, has become synonymous with the island way of life. The cultivation of sugar cane and the production of rum began to spread across the Caribbean following Christopher Columbus’s introduction of sugar cane cuttings to the region in 1493. The plant thrived in the Caribbean’s hot and humid climate.

As early as the 1600s, rums produced on these islands gained popularity in England and its colonies. A significant factor in the drink’s widespread appeal was the practice of the Royal Navy, which provided its sailors with daily rations of rum. This tradition endured for over 300 years, lasting until 1970.
