Glendronach 18 Year Old

Glendronach Allardice 18-year-old, named in honor of the distillery’s founder, has undergone exclusive maturation in oloroso sherry casks.

It has held a prominent position in the distillery’s lineup since its reintroduction in the 2000s and continues to be one of the finest 18-year-old whiskies with a strong sherry influence available.

It offers a luscious, fruity profile with intricate layers of gentle spice, as well as abundant notes of raisins and dates.

• Nose

  Big sugary raisins, dried cherries, dark chocolate, beefy edges, butter, cream, coffee, almonds and toffee. ‘Like a Starbucks Double Tall Cappucino, with fruit’ my more flowery note reads.

• Palate

  More raisins, Eccles cakes, sour plums, dates, cinnamon and allspice, with a big dark woody middle. Water brings out more sweet and sour fruit, with a hint of Worcester sauce, as well as more spice, and simplifies the flavour.

• Finish

  Sugared almonds and butter, with a bit of grainy wood leading to grape-skin tannins.

• Comment

  A filthy whisky, and I mean that as high praise.
